These items and animals give us a glimpse into history that we never thought was possible.

While it isn't uncommon for scientists to find woolly mammoths buried in the ice or snow, these specimens are usually missing their brains. These large animals bare a pretty similar resemblance to modern-day moose but obviously lived at a very different time in history, so discovering them can reveal a lot to scientists. Finding the fossils was only half the battle; to study it, researchers had to drive nearby, hike for 12 hours in the snow, and dig them up.
