Friend Recalls Gene Hackman Paying People's Tabs at Their Restaurant
Gene Hackman would often stop by Jinja Bar & Bistro in Santa Fe, New Mexico for a bite and to pay the tabs of a few of the customers
The two struck up a friendship and Hackman eventually became co-owner of the restaurant, which specializes in the “cultures and cuisine of the Pacific Islands and East Asia,” according to its website. Though Hackman sold his stake in the bistro about seven years ago, Lanham told TMZ, the late actor, whose death was announced earlier this week, would still come in on occasion for a meal and to pay the tabs of a few lucky patrons.
