Fresh Off ‘Road House,’ Amazon MGM Studios Signs First-Look Deal With Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories

Amazon MGM Studios has signed a first-look deal with Jake Gyllenhaal’s production company Nine Stories following the success of 'Road House.'

Gyllenhaal most recently starred in “Road House,” a remake of the cult Patrick Swayze film, which was released on Amazon’s streaming service, Prime Video. It also produced “Wildlife,” which marked Paul Dano’s directorial debut and starred Carey Mulligan; David Gordon Green’s “Stronger,” starring Gyllenhaal as Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman; and Antonio Campos’ Southern gothic, “The Devil All the Time.” Other releases include Reinaldo Marcus Green’s “Joe Bell” and Tate Taylor’s “Breaking News in Yuba County.” For the stage, Nine Stories produced “We’re Only Alive for a Short Amount of Time” by playwright David Cale, with Gyllenhaal serving as a producer on “Sea Wall/A Life” and Jeremy O. Harris’ “Slave Play.” Marker left the company to join Linden Entertainment in 2022. “Jake is a one-of-a-kind talent whose passion and eye for filmmaking makes him a powerful storyteller both in front of the camera and behind the scenes,” said Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios.
