French Actor Fanny Ardant Defends Gerard Depardieu at Sexual Assault Trial in Paris

French actor Fanny Ardant took the stand to defend Gerard Depardieu at his trial in Paris where he's facing sexual assault charges from two women.

She alleges that one day, as she walked past him sitting in a corridor, he grabbed her, pulled her toward him, blocked her with his legs and kneaded her on the waist, hips and chest, while making obscene comments. The trial opened on Monday and has been heavily attended by French journalists, as well as other alleged victims of the 76-year old actor, notably Charlotte Arnould who has accused him of rape. Depardieu has long been considered a leading figure of France’s cinematic history, and has starred in over 150 films, including classics such as Jean-Paul Rappeneau’s “Cyrano de Bergerac.” He now risks five years of imprisonment and a fine of €75,000 ($81,000) if he’s found guilty of sexual assault.
