Former MoviePass Executive Found Guilty of Embezzling at Least $260,000 From Company to Fund Coachella Event

Khalid Itum, a former MoviePass executive, was found guilty of embezzling $260,000 to produce an event at Coachella.

A former executive for MoviePass Inc. was found guilty on Thursday of embezzling at least $260,000 from the subscription service and its parent company, Helios & Matheson Analytics, to repay debts incurred by producing a marketing event at the Coachella music festival in 2018. He later reached the role of executive VP, which he held until departing the company in March 2019 — around the time that the all-you-can-watch subscription-based movie theater ticketing service collapsed financially after losing hundreds of millions of dollars. Prior to that, Variety had reported in 2019 that Itum had pleaded guilty to stealing money from a previous employer, a furniture company.
