Former Chicago Cubs Slugger Sammy Sosa Admits 'Mistakes' in Apology to Fans
Sammy Sosa, whose famous 1998 home run race with Mark McGwire reignited interest in baseball, admitted he made 'mistakes' during his career
“I understand why some players in my era don’t always get the recognition our stats deserve,” Sosa said in a statement on Thursday, December 19. Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela died on Tuesday, October 22, at the age of 63 — but his legacy will live on with sports fans for decades to come. His home run chase with McGwire is widely credited with helping bring popularity back to Major League Baseball after the 1994 strike canceled that year’s World Series.
