Flavor Flav Says He 'Briefly’ Relapsed: 'I Am a Human Being Who Makes Mistakes'
The Public Enemy co-founder admitted to fans that he had "briefly relapsed." He said he wants to “hold myself publicly accountable” and that he’s "back to day 1" of sobriety.
Last October, in honor of World Mental Health Day, the rapper spoke about the four-year anniversary of his sobriety, saying, “My mental health is an important part of my sobriety journey.” To honor the milestone, Flav — born Jonathan Drayton Jr. — offered to pay for the cost of subscriptions to a therapy app for the day. Before getting sober, Flav said he was spending “$2,400 to $2,600 a day... for six years straight, you do the math," during a 2023 appearance on the Off the Record with DJ Akademiks podcast. “Note for the upcoming holiday season, some of us are on a sobriety journey and mocktails or non-alcoholic beer options make a big difference,” he wrote.
