Filmmaker Steve McQueen Hails Life Of Adam Somner, Salutes Producer & Go-To First AD As “Working Class Hero“
'Blitz' filmmaker Steve McQueen pays loving tribute to Adam Somner, a go-to producer and first assistant director who died in late November.
The highly regarded Somner was the go-to AD for the likes of Steven Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson and Ridley Scott. Back in the day, early in his career, Somner was a third AD on Kenneth Branagh’s feature film debut Henry V, and he was remarkably organized and unflappable even then. I remember when he brought an elderly gentlemen to help us out with the Café de Paris scene who was a first AD on Lawrence of Arabia.
