The D.C. Appeals Court upheld a law that would ban TikTok in the country unless its Chinese parent company ByteDance sells its interest in the app.

Circuit upheld a law that would ban TikTok in the country — unless its Chinese parent company ByteDance sells its interest in the app. President Biden signed the “Protecting Americans’ Data From Foreign Adversaries Act of 2024” into law on April 24, after it passed in Congress with solid bipartisan support. Prior to the law’s enactment, Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), chair of the Senate’s Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, suggested TikTok and ByteDance are “weaponizing” data and AI to spy on Americans, including journalists covering the company.
