Fatih Akin’s ‘Amrum’ Sells to First Territories Ahead of World Premiere in Cannes (EXCLUSIVE)
Beta Cinema has closed several deals for Fatih Akin’s “Amrum,” ahead of its world premiere in the Cannes Premiere section of Cannes Film Festival.
The drama, which plays in Cannes Premiere, has been sold to France (Dulac Distribution), Spain (A Contracorriente), Japan (Bitters End), Benelux (Cherry Pickers), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Cinemart), former Yugoslavia and Bulgaria (MCF) and Brazil (Imovision). Based on the childhood memories of German director and screenwriter Hark Bohm, the film is set in the final weeks of World War II on the secluded island of Amrum. The 12-year-old discovery Jasper Billerbeck is in the leading role and he is supported by Laura Tonke (“AEIOU,” “The People vs. Fritz Bauer”), Lisa Hagmeister (“System Crasher”), Kian Köppke, Matthias Schweighöfer (“Army of the Dead”) and Diane Kruger (“In the Fade,” “Inglourious Basterds”).
