While the music world mourns Roy Ayers, the Godfather of Neo-Soul and a jazz-funk pioneer who died at age 84 on March 4, the hip-hop community will always remember him as one of its brightest inspirations. Dreezy ‘s “Ready” from her 2016 album No Hard Feelings pitches down the notable drone synth riff from “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” underneath the entire track. The-Dream ‘s “Outkast” from his 2014 EP Royalty: The Prequel lifts the tranquil piano melody of “Everybody Loves the Sunshine,” while he softly harmonizes with the drone synth riff.
