Eurovision Song Contest winner JJ wants Israel banned from the 2026 competition.
According to the Associated Press, while Raphael had much public support in the form of voting, she faced pro-Palestinian protests that called for Israel’s ouster from the competition over the Israel-Hamas war. The current war started on Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked several locations in Israel, including the Nova Music Festival near Gaza — which Raphael survived — killing about 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostage. Raphael coming in second prompted some countries — including Spain, Ireland, Belgium and Iceland — to question the voting, with some requesting an audit, the BBC reported on Wednesday (May 21).
