ESPN's John Brenkus Dead at 54 After Depression Battle: Colleagues React


Brenkus, who hosted the critically-acclaimed 'Sport Science,' had been 'battling' mental illness, according a statement released by his friends and family

“John, co-founder of Base Productions, founder of Brinx.tv, and co-creator and host of the 6-time Emmy award-winning Sport Science, had been battling depression.” News broke on January 4 that Aubrey Plaza’s estranged husband, Jeff Baena, died one day earlier at the age of 47. On a January 2023 episode of Brinx.tv’s Never Shut Up, Brenkus opened up to host Marcellus Wiley about a past suicide attempt after he fell into a “very deep depression.”
