Emotional memorial for iconic Neighbours star Janet Andrewartha on what would have been her birthday after she died aged 72
The beloved Australian actor hailed as 'one of the finest actors of her generation,' has been honoured in a large public memorial in Melbourne, several months after her death.
Australian columnist, writer, and actor Elly Varrenti hosted the highly emotive service, which was also live-streamed on social media for people who were unable to attend in person. Prisoner actor Raylene Pearce, who starred as Phyllis Hunt on the corrections-inspired soap opera, recalled Janet's 'tiny terrace house in West Brunswick, wall-to-wall people taking up much of the lounge room,' on Friday nights after the cast had wrapped filming and 'were all a bit mad'. Award-winning actor Kerry Walker (The Piano, Looking For Alibrandi) said Janet was 'driven by an incandescent rage against injustice' and praised her last work before she died, SBS drama Safe Home about domestic violence.
