Nate's family believed he had moved to Shetland for a fresh job opportunity, but suspicions arose when he failed to send child support payments for his daughter Frankie or maintain contact. As the episode drew to a close, John attempted to console Cain, assuring him that the police will soon shift their attention elsewhere, while the unstable medical practitioner hatched a crafty scheme.
