Elliot Page Denounces “Devastating” Rollback of LGBTQ2+ Rights at 2024 Juno Awards
The ‘Umbrella Academy’ star was introducing a humanitarian award for Tegan and Sara in his hometown of Halifax at Canada’s version of the Grammys.
“We are at a time in history where the rights of LGBTQ2+ people are being revoked, restricted and eliminated throughout the world, and the effects are devastating,” Page said when citing the work by the Tegan and Sara Foundation to support and build social change for trans and queer youth at the Junos in his hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia. She called out the province of Alberta for recently proposing to restrict health care for transgender youth, including halting access to hormone therapy for children aged 15 and under. An emotional highlight at the Junos this year came when Maestro Fresh-Wes, aka Wesley “Wes” Williams, was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
