Elizabeth Banks Says She Is Only Just Now Getting Leading Lady Offers: 'I'm Often the Comic Relief'


Actress and producer Elizabeth Banks, who is now starring as a surgeon in 'A Mistake,' opens up to PEOPLE about getting more substantial acting job offers after 28 years in the business playing mainly roles that focused on the ingenue or funny sidekick.

Elizabeth Banks tells PEOPLE she's very rarely the actual lead of a movie — let alone a serious movie like her new film, A Mistake, where she plays both a New Zealander and a surgeon who gets caught up in a scandal at the hospital"It's really only been in my second life as an actress here that I've started playing the lead role," Banks, 53, adds The star further highlights, "I'm often given more comic relief parts. Elizabeth Banks has been in tons of varied projects since her acting career took off in the late '90s: A sexy camp counselor in Wet Hot American Summer. I feel like the thing I'm most proud of, besides my marriage and my family, is the fact that I built trust and a relationship with audiences over this long period.
