The acronym stands for Emmy , Grammy , Oscar, and Tony Awards and is the designation given to people who have won all four of the major American performing awards.

In 1964 he earned the other two honors including a Grammy in the Best Children's Album category for Mary Poppins and the Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy for The Dick Van Dyke Show. Acting legend Rita Moreno (pictured in 1977) hit the milestone in 1977 with an Emmy in the Outstanding Continuing or Single Performance by a Supporting Actress in Variety or Music category for The Muppet Show Other icons who have achieved the status include Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, and Viola Davis.
