When Nicholas Johnston bought an idyllic Devon seaside village 'on a whim' for £11.5million, he prompted fury among locals by unveiling plans to develop it with a beach club, new homes and underground car park. Johnston also owns Great Tew, a 4,000-acre estate in Oxfordshire that hosts the annual Cornbury Festival, nicknamed 'Poshstock' for its popularity among the 'Chipping Norton set', including former prime minister Lord (David) Cameron and his wife, Samantha.
