Eddie Stobart dead as tributes pour in for motorway king who gave every lorry its own name
Tributes have been paid to Eddie Stobart, founder of the famous lorry firm, who has sadly died at the age of 95, with fans calling it the "end of iconic era" for business
The company's first lorry, a second-hand Guy Invincible four-wheeler, hit UK roads in 1960, sporting the famous Eddie Stobart green and red colour scheme. Eddie Stobart trucks have always turned heads with their unique tradition of naming their vehicles after women, a quirky practice started by the company's founder in the 1940s. Today, the names are even more diverse, reflecting the drivers' connections to the trucks, with monikers ranging from Finnish Tuula Karina to Welsh Angharad, and even the heroic Optimus Prime from the Transformers series.
