Eddie Murphy returned to the set to shoot new scenes for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F with Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Then in 2011, the project shifted from a movie sequel to a CBS TV series, focusing on Axel Foley's son Aaron (Brandon T. Jackson), a rookie cop in the Beverly Hills Police Department. Murphy was set to executive produce and make an appearance as Axel, and while a pilot episode was shot, CBS ultimately passed on bringing it to series. Ratner returned to direct again in late 2013, though that never made it to production, nor did another version with directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life).
