EastEnders' original Martin Fowler star returns to BBC soap 17 years after quitting


EastEnders actor James Alexandrou who played bad boy Martin Fowler alongside co-star Natalie Cassidy recently returned to the show as he took on a behind the scenes role

James's character was central to many of the show’s most iconic storylines, such as fathering a child with Sonia Jackson as teens before accidentally killing her fiancé, Jamie Mitchell. But the TV star stepped down from his role in 2007 to explore other opportunities in his industry, as BBC bosses tied in his exit with his Sonia co-star, Natalie Cassidy. Speaking on Johnny Seifert's Secure The Insecure mental health podcast, James revealed: "I kind of did go back [to EastEnders] recently; I shadowed as a director.
