EastEnders star Kara Tointon has revealed that she has undergone a double mastectomy, seven years after her mum tragically passed away from ovarian cancer. The 41 year old actress made the brave decision to have the major operation after discovering she carries the BRCA1 gene, which puts her at a higher risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. She said: "I was pregnant with my first child at the time, knew I wanted more children if possible so over the next couple of years I was invited to various meetings by the NHS to really become informed and to understand all my options", reports the Mirror.
