EastEnders star in tears after being made homeless amid harrowing divorce
EastEnders legend Rudolph Walker was at his lowest ebb when he was playing Patrick Trueman – the star has opened up on the very dark time in his life when he felt "utter despair"
Despite starring in one of the BBC's flagship programmes, Rudolph faced such dire financial straits following a harrowing divorce from his second wife Dounne Alexander MBE, whom he wed back in 1998, that he was left living out of a suitcase and depending on the kindness of friends for accommodation. At a point where legal battle scars left him with naught but his car, the veteran actor clung to hope during late-night shoots since it sometimes meant the BBC (unaware of his plight) might spring for a hotel stay close to the studio, reports the Mirror. Achieving national fame as Bill Reynolds in the sitcom Love Thy Neighbour now under fire for its portrayal of race issues in 1970s UK Rudolph reflects on the limited chances for Black actors of his era and admits encountering bias, occasionally even from those with the best intentions.
