EastEnders original star who quit acting and worked with David Beckham

Tom Watt was one of the original cast members of EastEnders in 1985 and played Lofty for three years before leaving the soap to pursue his passion for sports

As one of the original cast members of the iconic soap EastEnders when it first hit screens in 1985, Tom Watt was often spotted behind the bar of the Queen Vic, witnessing the drama of Albert Square unfold. During this period, he never completely abandoned acting, making appearances in an episode of the BBC detective show New Tricks, as well as a brief cameo in the Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr film Sherlock Holmes. But when the soap opera that gave him his initial break came calling again, Tom gladly accepted the opportunity to return as Lofty for special episodes in 2019 and 2022, which commemorated the funerals of Dr Harold Legg and the legendary Dot Cotton respectively.
