EastEnders legend quits BBC soap saying 'I made a tough decision'

He explained that 'the time feels right that I hand over the keys to The Queen Vic'

He said he was going to bow out as the soap's executive producer - the most powerful person on the show - after its 40th anniversary spectacular, calling it a "tough decision" to make. He said today: " EastEnders has been the highlight of my career and I have loved every minute of it, but it’s time for change, and for a new chapter, and I’m delighted to be staying within BBC Studios Drama Productions. Storylines under his time in charge included the return of Michelle Collins as Cindy Beale and the elaborate whodunit involving ' The Six' - a group of Walford women where the audience had no idea who the victim or the murderer were.
