EastEnders first look: Doctors star Bharti Patel joins the soap as new character Maya Houssain who sparks up a very 'unlikely friendship'
Known for her portrayal of Ruhma Carter in the soon-to-be-axed BBC show Doctors, Bharti is set to make her arrival into Albert Square on Wednesday May 29.
It was announced in October that the BBC had axed the soap after over two decades amid falling ratings and rising costs, with the final episode set to air in December this year. The cast and crew of the iconic soap were reportedly called into a meeting with channel bosses where they learned the tragic news, after a bid to move the show to a primetime slot failed to draw in audiences.
