EastEnders viewers were left in tears during tonight's episode as Phil Mitchell and Nigel Bates were seen discussing Nigel's future as his dementia advances
In the previous episode, Phil discovered Nigel's heartbreaking intention to end his life should he fail to remember answers during his cognitive test – a plan he had recorded on his phone after being diagnosed with dementia. A third fan tweeted: "Oh my god this Nigel / Phil story line is going to be absolutely heart breaking # Eastenders," while another declared: "Well tonight's episode is a masterpiece and one of my all time favourite's ever. Nigel made a surprise comeback to Albert Square on Christmas Eve, with actor Paul Bradley stepping back into his role after 26 years away.
