Duke Says White Lotus Used 'Brand Without Permission,' and Went 'Too Far' Putting Jason Isaacs' Character in a Duke T-Shirt

A university spokesperson says the HBO series 'does not reflect our values or who we are' after Jason Isaacs' character wore a Duke t-shirt in a tense scene on the most recent episode of the hit show.

In a statement to The New York Times, an official with the Durham, N.C., university accuses the HBO series of going “too far” with Jason Isaacs ’ “Timothy Ratliff” character and says the salacious businessman “does not reflect our values or who we are.” Timothy Ratliff – played by Isaacs, 61 – finds himself at the center of a dramatic scene where he contemplates suicide while donning a Duke t-shirt, which is revealed to be the character’s alma mater in the series. After one user joked about the HBO series delivering rival basketball fans “an all-time meme if Duke loses early” in the ongoing NCAA Tournament, the university responded with a post raising awareness about suicide prevention.
