Dua Lipa wins copyright case over melodies from 1970s disco track

A New York judge has dismissed the lawsuit against the British singer, finding her song Levitating did not infringe on the 1979 record Wiggle and Giggle All Night

The lawsuit was dismissed in New York when a judge found that Lipa, 29, did not infringe on the 1979 song Wiggle and Giggle All Night by the songwriters L Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer. Her attorneys denied that she had listened to Wiggle before co-writing her song and said Brown and Linzer could not “monopolise one of the most commonplace and rudimentary elements of music: the use of a minor scale”. They successfully won a copyright suit in 1980 after a judge agreed that Don Diablo, a song recorded by the Spanish singer Miguel Bosé, infringed on Wiggle.
