Downton Abbey star Matthew Goode looks unrecognisable in new Netflix thriller

Matthew Goode stars in Netflix's latest crime thriller Dept Q. as a broken but brilliant detective and terrible colleague - worlds away from his polished days as Henry Talbot.

Matthew Goode shot to fame as Henry Talbot in Downton Abbey and portrayed Princess Margaret's husband, Anthony Armstrong-Jones in The Crown (Image: Justin Downing/Netflix)Swedish actor Alexej Manvelov brings to life Akram Salim, a rookie assistant with a war-torn past and a strong moral compass, who is reluctantly paired with the chaotic Carl. Matthew, Alexej, and Chloe lead an impressive lineup featuring the talents of Game of Thrones' Kate Dickie, Kelly Macdonald, Mark Bonnar, Shirley Henderson, and Jamie Sives. While the show's aesthetic strikes a chord between Nordic noir and gothic eeriness, Carl's biting sarcasm and blunt humour infuse it with unexpected levity, particularly in scenes where he interacts with his teenage stepson Jasper, left in his care by his Scottish ex-wife.
