Donald Trump, On ‘Meet The Press,’ Again Pledges To Pardon January 6th Rioters, Says Liz Cheney And Other Committee Members “Should Go To Jail”

Trump made his first appearance since winning the 2024 election.

In his first sit down interview since winning the presidential election, Donald Trump told NBC News’ Meet the Press that he still plans to pardon those convicted for their role in storming the Capitol on January 6, 2021, while he said that the members of committee tasked with investigating it “should go to jail.” Cheney served as vice chair of the January 6th Committee, which concluded in 2022 with a criminal referral to the Justice Department over Trump’s role in the effort to overturn the 2020 election. In the wide ranging interview, Trump said that he plans to issue pardons to the January 6th rioters on his first day in office, adding that many of those convicted have been in prison “for years, and they’re in a filthy, disgusting place that shouldn’t even be allowed to be open.”
