Dolly Parton celebrates the 50th anniversary of her 1974 hit I Will Always Love You: 'It will always hold a special place in my heart'

Just after revealing that Beyonce may have recorded a cover of her 1973 song Jolene, Dolly Parton is celebrating her 1974 song I Will Always Love You.

Parton wrote the song in 1973, crafted as a farewell to her mentor and duet partner Porter Wagoner as she decided to forge a career as a solo artist. It spent a then-record 14 straight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts and won Grammys for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Radio stations started playing the song after she performed with Gill at the Grand Ole Opry in August 1995 and it was officially released as a single in November 1995.
