Doja Cat Admits ‘Nerves Got to Me’ During Oscars’ James Bond Tribute and a ‘B—- Hit Some Flats’; Raye Says ‘I Tried My Best’
Doja Cat and Raye have addressed the criticism of their James Bond tribute at the Oscars -- 'nerves got to me and a bitch hit some flats,' said Doja.
There’s no denying that one of the more bizarre moments of last night’s Academy Awards was the James Bond musical tribute — not only because viewers were anticipating an announcement tied to the franchise, freshly acquired by Amazon, but because of the guests tapped to perform. The sequence started with “Substance” actress Margaret Qualley delivering a dance routine to the Bond theme, and concluded with Blackpink member Lisa singing and dancing to “Live and Let Die,” Doja Cat belting through “Diamonds are Forever,” and Raye covering Adele’s “Skyfall.” On a surface level, the latter three artists don’t have a direct tie to the franchise, and were seemingly put together in an indirect attempt to promote their own joint single, “Born Again,” which they did not sing. Online, Bond fans expressed displeasure with the performance, calling the tribute “pointless” for failing to address the questions surrounding the long-running spy franchise — namely, identifying who will assume the lead role after Daniel Craig’s send-off in 2021’s “No Time to Die.”
