Doctor Who's Millie Gibson 'is dropped from sci-fi show after just one series' as her 'replacement' is 'revealed'

The former Coronation Street actress, 19, made her much-anticipated debut as the Fifteenth Doctor's companion Ruby Sunday in the 2023 Christmas special.

Other companions have had stayed on the show for a number of years, including Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald, Billie Piper's character Rose Tyler and Karen Gillan's Amy Pond. The festive episode saw Ncuti's incarnation of the famous traveller battle an army of goblins intent on causing bad luck for Ruby (Millie), an orphan determined to discover the truth about her past. Penned by showrunner Russell T Davies, Ncuti's performance was universally praised by fans, with many stunned to learn of his unexpected singing talents during the episode's musical number.
