Doctor warns gel manicures could put you at risk of cancer


A doctor has warned getting gel manicures could increase your risk of skin cancer, especially under the nails – research highlights DNA damage and mutations in human cells

The research highlights that such radiation can damage DNA and cause mutations in human cells, leading to concerns over an increased risk of cancer. It is important to bare in mind however that according to a 2014 study published in JAMA Dermatology, getting a gel manicure every fortnight probably doesn't notably increase your risk of cancer. Chris Adigun, MD, a Clinical Assistant professor of dermatology at New York University School of Medicine, commented: "I wouldn't spend time worrying about the UV exposure from these lamps.
