Disbarred personal injury lawyer Tom Girardi has been found guilty of embezzling tens of millions of dollars from his clients.
Disbarred personal injury lawyer Tom Girardi has been found guilty of leading a years-long scheme in which he embezzled tens of millions of dollars from his clients. Girardi is known for his role in the 1993 class-action lawsuit against California’s Pacific Gas and Electric Company — a case that inspired the 2000 film “Erin Brockovich,” starring Julia Roberts. “Tom Girardi built celebrity status and lured in victims by falsely portraying himself as a ‘Champion of Justice,’” U.S. attorney Martin Estrada said in a statement following the jury verdict.
