Diego Luna was sold on Rogue One after director said he wanted the Stars Wars movie to feel like Y Tu Mamá También

Diego Luna recalled 'Rogue One' director Gareth Edwards comparing the 'Star Wars' spinoff to the actor's best-known project, 'Y Tu Mamá También,' in a pitch: 'Well, maybe this is a role for me.'

Diego Luna was convinced to join the Star Wars universe after a director delivered a pitch that sounded tailor-made for him. "The director of Rogue One came to see me, and told me that he wanted to make a very particular Star Wars movie, with a different style of acting and hyperrealistic tone bordering on naturalism," Luna recalled. Luna said that he views the "crazy year" of Y Tu Mamá Tambien as "the moment when things changed" in his career, and also cites the film's director as a major influence on his own artistry.
