Denzel Washington, Whoopi Goldberg and More Stars Honor Late James Earl Jones at Broadway Event: 'One of the Greatest'


Denzel Washington and Whoopi Goldberg were among the stars who turned out at the James Earl Jones Theatre in New York City on April 7 to honor Jones, the EGOT-winning actor who died at 93 in September 2024. Washington opined during the event that Jones 'is one of the greatest actors ever to be on a Broadway stage.'

On Monday, April 7, Washington, 70, and Goldberg, 69, appeared at an event at the James Earl Jones Theatre — formerly known as the Cort Theatre — in Manhattan to pay tribute to Jones, the celebrated stage and screen actor who died at 93 in September 2024. As the outlet noted, Washington is currently starring in the Shakespeare play Othello on Broadway - Jones portrayed the title character on stage all the way back in 1982. Jones starred in some 21 Broadway productions during an acting career that began in 1957 as an understudy in The Egghead.
