Washington’s illustrious Golden Globe journey began nearly four decades ago, in 1988, when he was nominated for his portrayal of Steve Biko in Cry Freedom. Gladiator II, still showing in theatres, has received multiple nominations, including in the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, adding to its prestige. Beyond his competitive nominations and becoming the most-nominated black actor, Senzel Washington was also honoured with the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2016, recognizing his contributions to the film industry.
