Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley Body Horror ‘The Substance’ Acquired by Mubi Ahead of Cannes Competition World Premiere

Mubi has acquired worldwide rights to body horror 'The Substance,' due to bow in competition in Cannes and starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley.

The arthouse distributor, production banner and streamer has landed Coralie Fargeat’s body horror “The Substance,” starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Denis Quaid, picking up all rights for North America, U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, Latin America and Benelux, where it will release theatrically this year. Written and directed by Fargeat, who made a noise with her debut, 2017’s action-thriller “Revenge,” “The Substance” goes into Cannes with a significant amount of intrigue, having been produced by Working Title, the Brit banner best known for rom-coms and prestige dramas. Director of photography on the film is Benjamin Kracun (“Promising Young Woman,” “Beast”), co-editors are Fargeat, Jerome Eltabet (Revenge) and Valentin Féron, music is composed by Raffertie (“I May Destroy You”), Production Design is led by Stanislas Reydellet (“Le Bal Des Folles”), and Costume Design is by Emmanuelle Youchnovski (“Café de Flore,” “La belle époque”).
