Decades After Making Her Onscreen Debut At Just 8 Years Old, Angelina Jolie Opened Up About Getting Into Acting To Help Her Mom Stay Out Of Debt
“I didn’t start acting ‘cause I really, really wanted to be an actor...I needed to work to help my mom,” said Angelina, who first appeared on screen when she was just 8 years old.
For context, Angelina played the daughter of her real-life father, Jon Voight, in the 1982 film Lookin’ to Get Out. She didn’t appear in another project until 1993, when she starred in Michael Schroeder’s Cyborg 2. Of course, Angelina went on to play one of her most notable roles to date in the acclaimed 1999 film Girl, Interrupted — a performance that won the star her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
