Debi Mazar regrets turning down 'The Wedding Singer' role 'to this day': “I just was young and made a stupid decision”
Debi Mazar nearly played Drew Barrymore's cousin in 'The Wedding Singer,' and she still regrets turning down the role: 'I just was young and made a stupid decision.'
During a surprise appearance on Friday's episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress revealed that she passed on playing the supporting role of Holly Sullivan, cousin to female lead Julia, in the 1998 rom-com The Wedding Singer — and she's regretted it ever since. "I wanted to do The Wedding Singer, and I got the part, and I was so excited because I really was such a huge fan of Adam [Sandler]," Mazar explained in a video call with host Drew Barrymore and guests Christine Taylor and David Lascher. The character of Holly plays a key role in The Wedding Singer, most notably when she informs Robbie (Sandler) that his crush Julia (Barrymore) is under the impression that he's gotten back together with his ex Linda (Angela Featherstone) and is jetting off to marry her evil fiancé, Glenn Gulia (Matthew Glave).
