David Beckham details what inspired him to film his tell-all documentary as he calls it a love letter to his football career and 'supportive' family

The former Manchester United midfielder, 47, said there was only really one reason why he wanted to give the world an insight into current home life.

He told show hosts Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan, Lara Spencer and George Stephanopoulos: 'The only reason I did it was because it was kind of a love letter to my career and the sport and also, more importantly, my family. Speaking live in Times Square on the show, he said: 'But one funny thing was, we watched the premiere and as we are driving back to the house, my youngest son Cruz turns round to me and says ''Dad you were really good, I didn't know.''' The footballer told of his struggles with his mental health after becoming public enemy No 1 following his infamous red card upset during the 1998 World Cup, with abuse being levelled at him and his family including angry fans throwing their TVs out of windows and an effigy of him being hung outside a pub.
