This statement shared with ESPN caused conflicting arguments as to whether the spotlight should be given to flag football pros or to NFL stars in the first few stages of the Olympics. Midway along came a few much more direct suggestions for matches between flag footballers and the stars of the NFL: “Have ’em play against NFL players and see who wins,” dared one commenter, with another responding ‘”Get ready to learn Josh Allen buddy,”‘ in a jab meant obviously at undermatching Doucette against the Buffalo Bills’ star QB. The discussion carried on from there on a more technical plane, one pointing toward the current lack of any crossover between the flag football community and the NFL Combine, hence implying that those are actually two separate skill sets, while another ran wild with theories on how well the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Justin Jefferson would wipe the floor with any sincere flag footballers in an Olympic debut.
