Danny Dyer unrecognisable in forgotten ITV role before EastEnders fame

When the former Walford resident took on his first TV role in a classic crime drama, EastEnders star Danny Dyer looked a world away from the loveable landlord Mick Carer

While Danny Dyer is now best remembered as Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, he had a long acting career before setting foot in Albert Square – and it wasn’t all cheesy gangster movies. The tough guy actor has also won rave reviews treading the boards, performing in three plays penned by Harold Pinter, a close friend. In 2022, the actor made a dramatic exit from the show during the New Year episode when his character met a tragic end after diving into the English Channel in a bid to save his wife, Linda Carter.
