Dame Maggie Smith laid to rest in ‘beautiful goodbye’ as family pay tribute to Harry Potter and Downton Abbey star


Dame Maggie Smith was laid to rest on Monday as friends, family and showbiz colleagues gathered to bid a final farewell to the Harry Potter and Downton Abbey icon

The actress, renowned for her roles as Professor McGonagall in Harry Potter, the Dowager Countess in Downton Abbey, and the lead in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, was tenderly remembered at a private funeral on Monday. On Monday, her close friends and colleagues gathered at Mortlake Crematorium at 4pm to pay tribute to her "richly lived" life. Following her death, emotional tributes poured in from across the globe, including heartfelt words from King Charles, who expressed he was "deeply saddened" by the news, while Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, with whom she shared her screen experience from BBC's David Copperfield through to the magical franchise, has been left "heartbroken".
