Culver City Schools Open Doors to Fire-Displaced Students
As residents of Pacific Palisades begin rebuilding their lives, Culver City schools are preparing for an influx of students displaced by fire.
Gavin Newsom lifted the residency requirements for students on Jan. 13, making it easier for parents to find new schools for thousands of children and youth displaced by the fire that erupted Jan. 7 and has destroyed more than 6,800 homes and structures. Culver City, which is home to Amazon MGM Studios, Apple, Sony Pictures Entertainment and HBO, has natural advantages for many industry insiders, including the district’s strong arts and educational programs. That list includes the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, an after-school program at Culver City High School that is supported by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
