Critic Richard Roeper to Leave Chicago Sun-Times After 37 Year Career

The veteran film reviewer is taking a buyout and plans to continue his TV series, podcast and remain a film critic in print.

Roeper, a Chicago native, is among around 30 people to have taken a buyout from the iconic newspaper this week, including reporters and editors, as the Sun-Times along with the NPR radio station WBEZ now operate with a nonprofit media model. I will continue to review films and TV series every Friday on Windy City Weekend on ABC-7 Chicago, and I’ll keep recording new episodes of The Richard Roeper Show podcast every week. He was among several prominent journalists, sports stars, politicians and celebrities who, according to a New York Times reporter, paid to increase their Twitter followers with fake accounts.
