Coronation Street 'in crisis' says soap icon despite claims he's returning

Former Coronation Street star Sean Wilson, who played Martin Platt, has spoken out about the ITV soap and its struggles with ratings after his exit 19 years ago

Corrie legend Sean Wilson has opened up about the declining viewership of the ITV soap in recent years following his departure from Weatherfield nearly two decades ago. The 59 year old actor, who was known for his portrayal of Martin Platt from 1985 to 2005, and again briefly in 2018, believes the falling ratings stem from the writers' attempts to 'solve the world's issues' rather than focusing on entertainment. Despite this, Sean also acknowledged the rise in channel options, providing people with an increased range of shows to choose from, reports the Express.
